Club members are encouraged to participate in both internal and external competitions. The informed critisim of the images is a useful learning tool of ways to improve your photography. It is also an interesting way of seeing other peoples work. Currently there are four print competitions per session which are either themed or have an open brief. These competitions are either externally judged by an appointed judge, or judged internally by all the members using the clubs scoring system. The results from these competitions make up the league to give the “Photographer of the Year” prize. A Digital Projected Image Competition is held which is internally judged. Each session an “Annual Print Competition” is held which is externally judged. The club participates in an external competition “The G P Simpson “which is an annual competition between Gryffe, Kilmacolm,Skelmorlie, Cowal, West Kilbride and Greenock Camera Clubs. The clubs take it in turn to host this competition. Each club submits six prints and six projected images and a judge marks each out of 20 points. Each club takes their three best scoring slides and their three best scoring prints, adds the scores together and the club with the highest score wins the trophy which they hold for a year. Individual and club submissions are also made yearly to the external SPF competitions. Competition Rules
